2007 Spring Comp

Well the first North Coast Spring comp has been played and it was a wonderful day apart from a couple of incidents which I will touch on later. Many thanks go to The Coolangatta Hotel and Geoff Atkinson for providing us with the facilities and the service to make it such a great day. Their was plenty of work done before a ball was potted, by Geoffrey and Watty to get the tables up to scratch for the finals. We handed out $5,900 in prizemoney plus trophies for our 15 week comp so I am pretty proud of that. It was a bit disappointing that Farque had to forfeit due to 2 players having unbreakable prior commitments and were not  able to fill their spots at short notice. The division 2 final was won for the 2nd time in a row by Waynes Flair Crew and with the addition of Irene Watt to their side next year they will be going hard at division 1. On the way through they were a bit strong for Fisho?s Hustlers then had to go to the best of 3 knockout after being 8 all with Callum?s Blow Ins finally sneaking home 2 zip in the shootout, then were a bit to good for Peter Paynter?s Bruns Boys 9-4 in the final. The Bruns Boys reached the final by getting past Jame?s Tarns Boys 9-7 in a close first round after it was 6 all at the turn. Then they stitched up Dennis? Sea Masters 9-5 but couldn?t repeat the effort in the final. It was the first try for the Bruns Boys and they will be back and improved by the experience and will be looking for higher honours in the Summer comp starting in February. Sea Masters took 3rd spot over Blow Ins 4th 9-7 after it was 7 all. Fifth spot went to The Hustlers who had a long wait for their 2nd game after Farque forfeited and they nailed Tarns Boys 6th 9-3. Dazed and Confused tried all their tricks but at times weren?t tricky enough but thanks to Col and the boys they were there every week and put in 101% they enjoyed the season and were 7th.

Division 1 had some hot sides participating and so it proved. Favourites Watty?s Tigers took care of Vikki?s Coolie Reno?s in the first round 9-5 while Poppy?s Cellar Dweelers defeated Donny?s Splinters Revenge 9-7 amid a bit of controversy and some harsh statements (more later) as I played Mr Bean (committee approved) in place of Kingsley who had major problems and couldn?t play the last round and the final. All of a sudden Beannie won 4 and was elevated to Craig Duffy standard. A good player Mr Bean Duffys standard in their dreams. Anyway then in a bit more controversy The Captains TT Rebels upset the more favoured Deano?s Coolangatta Gold 9-6 but it was more of a case of one team losing the plot and one team just playing to win that brought about the result. We have a policy that any 4 man team will not be disadvantaged in the finals if one or more members are unavailable and we will replace that player with a player of comparable ability rather than see 5, 6, or even 7 man teams throughout the season sitting out players every round. We have reserves who play throughout the year and they are the players chosen from should the situation arise. Enough. The reigning premiers looked in the proverbial when they were 5-1 and down and Steve gone against Higgo, but Steve got back in it and it was an unlikely 5-2. Judy beat Brent to push it out to 6-3 but the Eels found form and voice and ran out the next 6 to win 9-6 and escape an early exit in a danger match for them. That made up the 4 teams for the semi?s. The battle for 5th to 8th saw Splinters move past Coolie Reno?s and Coolie Gold regrouping to go into knockout shootout with The Cunning Stunts and getting the money 2 zip. That set up Splinters and Coolie Gold for 5th and 6th and once again it was a 3 way shootout but this time slinters got the money 2-1 with Greenie getting Newc in ths decider. So Splinters Revenge were 5th and Coolie Gold 6th. Cunning stunts finally came good and pinched 7th from Coolie Reno?s 8th. The scoresheet was decimated.

The semi finalists saw outsiders (with due respect) TT Rebels lined up vs the Eels and what a ripper it was 3-1 to the Eels at the first break the 4 all at half time then 6 all then Trent masterd Rob to go 8-6 up and it looked hasta la vista Rebels but they showed great character with Mark and Rod beach house getting the money to go into yet another shootout. This time to rach the final. No pressure. Michael got Rod B first up then Mark got skipper Brent so it was 1 all and Trent vs Rob, Rob will learn heaps from this game through losing and it was the Eels into the final yet again, superb effort by the TT Rebels and it showed you can win premierships from 7th and 8th if you do your best. The Tigers played Celler Dwellers and they were far to good and reached another grand final. We played TT Rebels for 3rd and 4th andgot up over a tired Rebels team 9-5 to get 3rd with TT Rebels 4th. Great efforts by those 2 teams who were outpointed big time by most other teams but played to the best of their ability as a team.

OK that?s it for the home and away season and what a ripper of a final round it was. The top 7 was set but anyone of 4 teams were in the mix for 8th spot right up until the 16 frame in all games. Coolie Reno?s lost their last 3 to draw and thought they had blown it, Sea Masters lost the last frame to draw and out they went, Flair Crew were 5-2 up vs the leaders the Tigers and with Mel on a gimme black to go 6-2 up but she twitched and their chance went up in smoke. So the Coolie Reno?s snuck in and get the honor of playing the Tigers. Hmm Tigers $1.45 Reno?s $2.80. Then Coolangatta Gold get the improving TT Rebels. Coolie Gold $1.28 TT Rebels $3.25. The Eels vs Cunning Stunts could be tricky. Eels $1.72 C/Stunts $2.05. Splinters Revenge vs Cellar Dwellers tricky again Splinters $1.72 Cellar Dwellars $2.08. All the action is at the Coolie Hotel in the function room on the first floor of the Showcase building. The division 2 finals are at the same venue at 10.00am qld time this sunday. Division 2 comments will follow asap.

Round 14

Ok one round away from the Grand Final day at Coolie Hotel on Sunday the 18th 10.00am QLD start. The top 4 can't change unless their is a massive upset so the Tigers look to claim minor premiers on percentage from Coolangatta Gold with the summer comp premiers the Eels in 3rd spot and Splinters Revenge in 4th. The Cellar Dweller and Cunning Stunts are assured of a top 8 finish but their position can change in the 8. Then from 7th to 12th their is 2 points between them so it is 6 teams trying to get 2 spots, very interesting. The Flair Crew must beat the Tigers a big ask but? TT Rebels look reasonably safe with a good for and against but can't afford to be belted by the Cellar Dwellers, if they lose heavily they could slip out of the 8 but if they win they will finish 6th. Coolie Reno's only have to win to stay in the 8 but their opponents the Blow Inns will have to win well and hope the Sea Masters get rolled by Tarns Boys. The Sea Masters with a big win over Tarns Boys can sqeeze in if the Blow inns get up over the Reno's.The others team in the mix is the Bruns Boys who have let it slip badly over the last fortnight and would need a miracle win over the Eels and also need a lot of results go their way to make the top 8. My 8 is Tigers, Coolangatta Gold, Eels, Splinters Revenge, Cellar Dwellers, Cunning Stunts, TT Rebels, Sea Masters.  That leaves Coolie Reno's, Flair Crew, Blow Inns, Bruns Boys, Hustlers, Tarns Boys, Farque, and Dazed and Confused to play for the division 2 title a very strong field.
So the last round holds a lot of intrigue with the Coolie Renos, Blow Inns, and Flair Crew  still able to upset my predictions but I don't think so. Hm a few calls coming up here I fear. Bring it on.

NAME AND SHAME LIST: Eels owe for rounds 13 and 14. 2 teams to sort out a round 12 dispute other than that all is well.  Col I didn?t see after round 14.

Round 13

GRAND FINAL Day for all teams Coolie Hotel (upstairs) 10.00am (QLD) Sunday 18th November.

Coolie Renos and Cunning Stunts had games on Moday and Tuesday to complete rounds 12 and 13 for them. The Renos dropped right out of top 8 contention getting rolled 9-7 in both rounds, while the Stunters races into the 8 rolling Dazed and confused 11-5 and the Renos 9-7.

The Tigers caried on their merry winning way rolling us 10-6 although we should have been 4 zip up early but for 2 bad blunders. The King and I got 5 out of 8 and Watty got his first masterbreak and got 4. The Tigers stay on top on percentage and we stay 5th on percentage.

Coolie Gold kept 2nd spot with a nice win over The Sea Masters 10-6 who sit on 8th spot on percentage. Big 2 weeks coming up for the Dolphins team.

The Eels were predictably to strong for the TT Rebels and won 11-5. The Eels stay in 3rd spot while the Rebels tetter in equal 7th spot with a tough run home.

Flair Crew broke off the shackles with a 11-5 win over Tarns' Boys and although 11th stay in top 8 contention. Tarns Boys will contest the Division 2 Grand Final.

In the upset of the round The Hustlers finally showed their true form and belted 4th placed Splinters Revenge 11-5. The Hustlers can?t make the top 8 and Splinters saty in 4th.

The Bruns Boys blew a huge lead and got ran over late 9-7 by Callums boys to put them out of the 8 on percentage equal with the Blow Inns.

Farque also came good and caused an upset over Coolie Renos 9-7 dumping The Renos out of the 8. The best result of the season for Farque.

NAME AND SHAME: 2 fees from round 11 but that is being sorted.

Remember a week off next monday due to the Nationals we recommence on the 29th October.

Way better playing conditions last night we could leave the flippers at home as it was a dry carpet.

Firstly because of both teams having players going to the nationals early The Cunning Stunts and Coolie Reno's are playing their round 12 game at coolie on tuesday 30th October.

First game result was Splinters Revenge beating Farque 11-5 (Greenie thinks). No scoresheet can't do the stats.

Our game against Tarn's Boys wasa lot closer than the 11-5 scoreline would indicate. We were always in control on the scoreboard but several games could have gone the other way. James and Kane got doubles while Kingsley Irene and my good self snared trebles. Tania is in the middle of a horror run but is playing miles better than last year and only needs an ounce of luck to get back in the winning mode. Tarn's Boys will play in the division 2 final but with their talent they have probably under acheived a bit. Brownie and Kane will be far better players next year with this season under their belt. We are in 5th with a 3 point buffer and up against the Tigers next game in a fortnite so that will give us an idea where we are at after drawing with the 2nd and 3rd sides over the last 2 weeks.

The Tigers even without Watty  were predictably to strong for Dazed and Confused and ran out 12-4 victors to keep top spot on the ladder. Rod grabbed a good double for the Confused lot while  Northy on his last hit out before the nationals shot 100%. Tigers stay on top and Dazed and confused stay in the bottom half but are improving.

I did expect a tight tussle between joint leaders Coolie Gold and the 6th placed TT Rebels especially at Newcs favourite venue twin Towns. But the Rebels could only win 2 from 8 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and let it slip 10-6. Coolie Gold stay 2nd on percentages while the Rebels with a mighty tough run home hang on to 6th but only a win over the 11th placed side who have a game in hand. So it's all in front of them. The Captain was the only shining light for the Tebels with 3 and for the winners Newc kept his record intact with zip from 3 Dean, Terry and Silver cleaned up 10 games between them.

There was a minor upset on the table next to our game as the Hustlers finally got the chocolates after a frustrating run over the Bruns Boys 9-7. To late for the Hustlers this season to make the top 8 but the Bruns Boys are now on shkay ground in 8th spot. The two captains Fisho and Peter Paynter led by example with 3 a peice and it was only the consistency of the Hustlers with Woodsy, Mark and Sticks shooting 50% that got them home. Nestor shot 50% but Kenny and Wild Bill didn't set the world on fire and had forgetable nights. Sticks getting the better of Nestor in the last frame to clinch the victory. Interesting 3 final weeks coming up for several teams.

The Eels are starting to hit their straps at the business part of the season demolishing The Flair Crew 11-5 and keeping 3rd spot by one frame on percentages whie the Flair Crew slip back to 12th and while they are only a win out of the 8 will have to lift their game to make it back into the top 8. Steve G showed the benefit of his practice sessions at Snooker world lately shooting 100% and also Trent with 3 and Brent 2 from 2 added to thr Crews dismal night. only the current australian women's runner up (currently in the air to Melbourne for the Nationals) got into double digits.

Finally the two Dolphins teams fought out a battle to see who would stay in the top 8 and who would drop out and it was the Sea masters in and the Blow in's out after a 9-7 result. Quarters 1,3 and 4 were all 2 all results but the game breaker was the 2nd quarters 3-1 result. Porridge started in his first run for the season for the old salts but found it a bit hot but the Watt brother got 7 from 8 and Peter Rasty 2 to get them over the line. Pete Passett and Callum got 3 and 2 respectively but Credo and Daniel couldn't fire so out they go with work to do to get back in.

NAME AND SHAME: 2 teams from round 11 but Jason has both fees and they didn't compete last night so no probs.

What a wild night. It all started innocently enough, I was on the way home and thought I had better grab a few minutes practice at snooker world for the upcoming nationals and our game against the reigning premiers the Eels that night. I wandered into snooker world to find 3 slippery eels hard at it. (practicing). The night was looking harder already. So I did my hour and on the way home a massive storm warning popped on the radio that would hit Coolie about 6.00. Not good as I was looking like copping it. Missed it and thought ok false alarm. So off to pool.

After tonight only 4 rounds to go and remember no pool on the 22nd October due to the nationals in Melbourne.

Our game against the Eels started good with us 3-1 at quarter time. then all hell broke loose the heavens opened up outside and next minute they opened up inside as well. The rain came pouring through the ceiling in bucket fulls literally. Unbelievable just missing both tables though so we soldiered on a bit soggy underfoot. We got rolled the next 2 but then turned 5-3 up at the half way mark and feeling good. Kingsley was our only winner in the next set as I gifted a game to Mickey after he let me back in. So it was 6 all. Irene played a blinder and gave us a chance at 7-8 and then Brent felt sorry for me and I got up so an 8 all result was fitting result for a wild night. Mickey got 3 and Irene and Kingsley got 5 between them. It was nearly the first time a pool match was rained off. Wonder what the Duckworth Lewis system is for 8 ball. We both stay just off the pace in the 8.

The Tigers predictably got the best of Tarns Boys even with super sub Oscar on deck again, getting the cash 12-4 and keping top spot on percentage. Watty got all 4 with Northy and Paulie chipped with 3 while Gavin had an ordinary night for him. Oscar started with a bang but ended with a pop while James kept his good form going with a double.

Coolangatta Gold kept themselves in the hunt for the minor premiership with a soft 11-5 win over the Flair Crew. Geoffrey played away from home being the first shock of the night but there was a second shock and a minor milestone acheived when Newcastle broke his Twin Towns duck but then it was back to normal for his next 3 games. Terry shot 100% and is flying and all the Crew shot 25% so it was a night to forget for them. Maybe they need a dry track. The Crew have slipped out of the 8 and are looking down the barrel while the Golden boys are on top but behind on percentage only.

The Sea Masters new recruit Geoof Martin was rained in and this put them behind the eight ball for a start against the Hustlers who had Sticks back. The Sea Masters flew the gates and led 5-3 at half time then found the wet track to much and weakened a bit but still salvaged a point with a draw. Pete and Kerry got trebles while for the Hustlers Mark Williams got a treble while Woodsey and Fisho got doubles, The Hustlers are out of the 8 while the Sea Masters are a win out of the 8 and with only 4 rounds left will need to fire up.

One of the games of the round was Splinters Revenge and the Cunning Stunts both teams at full strength. It was a game of mixed quarters 3-1, 1-3, 3-1 and the Stunners looked home at 7-5 but then turned over the next 3 and Jas had to beat ex captain Brenton to salvage a draw (allah was good) which he managed to do. Dean Mc is on fire with another 100% effort and held the team together, Jas lost his first but that was his only blemish for the night while Judith and Higgo got doubles. The Splinters are 4th with a good percentage while the Stunters are clinging to 8th spot one point in front of 3 teams in 9th spot but have an ordinary for and against record. An interesting 4 weeks are ahead of us. Only the top 4 look reasonably safe but they can?t afford any slip ups. Between 8th and 12th there is only one win so its hot.

Thought the Blow In?s and the TT Rebels would be close but the Captains boys continued on their merry winning way and after a slow start 1-3 pulled away to win with ease 10-6. The Rebels are now in 6th spot but have the toughest run home of all teams while the Blow In?s may well have blown it and have to keep winning and hope for them to get in the 8 again, but it is not impossible. The Captain Steve is flying and is 3rd on the personal stats ladder and Mark and Rob pitched in with trebles as well. Callum and Pete P were the only Blow Ins to get more than 1 frame.

Draws all over the place but this one was a bit of a shock for the flying Bruns Boys as Farque played up to their best with Skipper Rod P leading the way with a well earned treble. It was nip and tuck all the way through at 2 all then 4 all then Farque slipped behind 5-7 and looked shot, but rallied to win the last 3 of four, only Kenny getting the cash for the Bruns Boys in the final stanza. All the Bruns Boys got 2 from 4 and they hold on to 7th spot albeit tentatively while Farque are getting their act together for the finals. Jeremy and Trot shot doubles to help their Skipper to grab the draw.

Last but not least saw a game of halves with the Coolie Reno?s leading 9 zip then Dazed and Confused showing heaps af character and grit to win 6 of the last 7 their best performance yet. Dene got 100% with Vikki, Andy and Min chipping in with doubles Scotty had a rare zero. Rod and Col lifted to get doubles while Garrett and Packo added to their tally as well. The Dolphins boys are out of the running for the 8 while Vikkis mob are one point out of the 8 with a good for and against. A couple of vital games coming up. The game vs the Cunning Stunts will be a ripper and could shape the final 8.

NAME AND SHAME LIST: Up to and including round 10 all is well.

Coolangatta Hotel opened their newly renovated Cuddys Pool Room/Bar and it really is fantastic. Music a bit loud but that might be an old age thing. 4 tables a TAB, well stocked bar and a lounging room outside if you want to vegetate. An excellent venue for the North Coast and NSW8ball for years to come. We are not going anywhere. Geoffrey is the main man there.

A NSW public holiday last night but it was no holiday for most teams with 3 draws amongst some lopsided results. the comp is really hotting up with the top 13 teams all in reach of the 8 at this stage with 5 rounds to go.

Where to start, ok our game, we came up against the top placed Coolie Gold and at the first quarter we were 4 zip down and looking for a cab to hail to get us home quick, but we knuckled down and won the 7 of the next 8 to go into the last quarter huddle 7-5 up. Terry and Newc caused us a bit of heart burn but Irene trounced Skipper Deano after belting Silver in round 3 and gave us the chance to grab the cash but Silver had the break and the upper hand throughout against me and gave me an unlikley chance but I caught the cannon on the black to thin and had no shot on the black so 8 all it was. Newc got 3 as did Irene and doubles to Terry, Silver, Poppy, and the King says it all, a fitting draw. Our "man" of the match was Irene who kept us in the game a couple of times when we looked in trouble.

No show for Sticks again and the Hustlers paid the penalty getting belted 15-1 by the TT Rebels who have climbed into the 8 and are flying. We do have commumity reserves so unless someone pulls out at the last minute there is no excuse for playing short. Fisho saved the total white wash and Rod was the culprit for the Rebels. Rob, Mark, Rod and the Captain are all in great form and will be looking to stay in the 8.

Greeny was the culprit in Splinters Revenge 15-1 belting of Dazed and Confused with Garrett saving the white wash. Dean Mc has rocketed to the top of the personal stats list and Captain Frosty is flying with another 100% effort as did Geoff. At least Donny got a game thanks to the green machines slip up. Still no white wash in the comp yet but last night went mighty close a couple of times.

A bit of a minor upset saw Callums boys (with Kristie subbing) take the Flair out of the Flair Crew with a 10-5 win after turning 4 all at half time. JC jumped into rescue a short staffed Crew and grabbed a couple but the Malone "twins" and skipper Wayne failed to fire on the night and they slip down the slippery pole out of the 8. (again) Blow Ins have resurected their season over the last fortnight and are right back in the mix again. Pete shot 100% and the squid kid helped out with 3. Credo was no where to be seen must still be celebrating the Manlys effort to get runner up.

The Sea Masters were a man short as well and did a good job to hold Farque to a 9-7 win. They turned 4 all at the main break but never worried the scorers after that except for Forfeit winning 3. Dennis carried the can with 100% backed up by Kerry and Peter getting the other 5. Farque let a great opportunity slip against the under manned Sea Masters.

The NSW public holiday caused chaos with Tarns Boys but they found a couple of fill ins but against current premiers The Eels even without Brent they were right up against it. Captain James did his best with all 3 wins and Tania had a couple of chances and was stiff not to convert. Steve G was the only 100% winner for the eels all the other boys putting in with 3 in their 13-3 win. So the Eels sit nicely just off the pace but Tarns Boys need to lift over the last 5 rounds.

The Bruns Boys looked like they coming back to earth with an almighty thud after being 8-5 down with 3 to play but they pulled the houdini effort and won all 3 and grabbed a valuable point for the draw. Pete got Judy after Kenny was unlucky (his words) against Jas and had put the Bruns team under the pump, then Nestor pulled out the cut of the night an the last red and nailed Higgo leaving it up to Wild Bill and Jamie. Wild Bill held his nerve and they got out of jail. No 100% efforts in either team just good solid stats Jude, Higgo, for the Stunners and Pete for the bruns Boys grabbed trebles. Both teams are still right in the mix for the 8.

The last game report is the premiership leaders the Tigers up against sliding Coolie Renos and it looked a simple matter of how far. Dene mastered Watty first up and things changed right around. Half time 4 all then the Tigers slipped into gear and at 7-5 it looked hasta la vista for the Renos but they kept coming and it was left to Watty to nail his summer comp nemisis Scotty to salvage a draw which he did but not without some anxious moments. Dene H was on fire with 4 from 4 for the Renos while Watty with 3 was the best of the Tigers. The Tigers stay on top courtesy of our draw with co leaders Coolie Gold while the Coolie Renos keep themselves in touch with the 8.

NAME AND SHAME LIST: Round 9 Dazed and Confused and Splinter Revenge are in arrears still but will be financial next week.

PS: Spin King Northy and the dazzling Jude pulled off the Gold Coast clubhouse doubles title on the weekend. Unfortunately President Bryan Burnett was not available to present the trophy to the winning team. A truly major disappointment to Northy. Well done to them both it was a hot field.

Round 9 up and away. Good pool, terrible pool, it was all happening. It is still super tight all the way down the ladder.

Just an early reminder that there is no games on the 22nd of October due to a multitude of players in our comp playing (or simply going to watch) for NSW and Queensland at the Nationals from the 16th Oct – 28th Oct.

First cab off the rank saw my good self have a shocker losing 3, albeit one to a fluked black and one to a super out from Credo, causing us to be belted by the Blow Ins 9-7 and relinquish our tenuous hold on the top 4. Kingsley, Irene and Willy all did their best but my effort was the difference. Having said that Callums boys (Daniel tried to make me feel better by losing all 4) all played good pool at times Credo with all 4 and Pete with 3 and kept themselves in touch with the eight.

The other game at Dolphins saw the Sea Masters cross swords with The Cunning Stunts (oops I will slip one day) and it was up and down, backwards and forward all night but Jasons team got the cash 9-7 to cement (for this week) their spot in the 8 and condemn Dennis and his lads to a precarious possie outside the eight. The Qsld master Higgo excelled with 4 and Jason and Wayno grabbed doubles (Jude pinched the other one) for the grinners while big Al and NSW master Dennis grabbed doubles for the vanquished.

Watch out the Flair Crew they are on a mighty roll, to quote Mel their “virginal winning belting” came about at the expense of Fisho’s Hustlers 13-3. The Malone “twins’ are smokin’ with 8 from 8 and a bit of help from Luke 3 from 3 and Skipper Wayne a double. (sorry Mick that all adds up to 13) and only Fisho and Mark worried the scorers for the Hustlers. That put the Crew right back in the mix for the final eight. The Husters need sticks every week.

The Captains TT Rebels are quietly cruising along and picking up wins and points to be sitting in a good spot with only 6 rounds to go giving Farque a taste of the sword 12-4. The Captain and Rob were their best with 8 from 8 helped out by Marco(1) and Rod(3) pitching in with the rest. Skipper Rod held his form with a double but it was up the ladder for the Rebels and stay where you are for the Twin Towns boys.

The match of the round had to be between last years premiers and this years favourites the Eels and the Tigers. It was even money each of 2 at the start and the Eels odds on after the first quarter at 3-1 up with Trent mastering Watty it all looked good for the slippery Eels. Three quarters later and the eels were well and truly barbequed winning only 2 more to go down meekly 11-5. Dingle was outstanding filling in for Mr Waffle and he might have to stay in and Paulie or Northy out after 3 from 4. Watty and Gavin hit the same (3) and Northy recovered from a shakey start to win his last 2. Brent and his boys just didn’t fire except for Trent (3) and Mickey, Brent, and the Geraghty “twins” made me feel better by winning 2 from the other 12. So we all had bad nights, must have been a full moon. The Tigers are now clear favourites for the flag. But for how long?

Forget the Splinters and the Reno’s game. The result was 11-5 to Splinters Revenge but I can’t give a report or do your stats without a score sheet. It’s not that hard to pass it to Geoff at the Coolie. Get with it.

Coolangatta Gold continued their relentless climb to the top and have settled level on points with the Tigers after smashing Tarns Boys 12-4. Brownie was great again for the losers with 3 but they were no match for the Golden boys led by Deano who is 3rd on the personal stats ladder , Newcastle and Terry all shooting 100%, only Silver and Ed dropping games. They are flying but they run into the Cellar Dwellers next week and will come back to earth with a mighty thud. (I hope). At the moment they are comfortable on top and playing great pool. Tarn had better shake up her lads and get them back into their earlier form.

Last but not least the Bruns Boys are still slipping under the radar and are cruising along week by week. Peter Paynter another 4 from 4 Kenny (3) and Wild Bill and Nestor with doubles it is a real team effort by the boys south of the border. Dazed and Confused had no answers although they all won games with Captain Col getting a double but went down convincingly 11-5.

NAMEAND SHAME LIST: Nil again good stuff.

Round 7 kicked off on a bit of a chilly night, a good night to be inside playing pool. First up was a bit of an upset with Cooly Reno's belting Sea Masters 11-5 Pete and Dennis grabbed a couple each for the losers and all the Coolie mob contributed with Dene shooting 100% and Vikki potting the black twice in one night. Amazing. That shoots the Reno's into a comfortable spot in the 8 but the Sea Masters have a lot of work to do to get back on track.
The Eels without Brent smashed Callum and his boys 14-2. Not much to say here Daniel was the only winner for the Blow In's and Mickey, Trent and the brothers Geraghty never took their collective feet off their collective throats and the win wasn't a shock but the scoreline was. Maybe the Coolie boys were in hangover mode from going down in the City 8 Ball semis 13-12 the previous Thursday. Good to see Mark finding his feet in the comp for the Eels he has had a bitch of a month with the equine influenza playing havoc with his racing interests. Good win to the Eels while the Blow In's need to regroup big time.
MAJOR UPSET*** The Bruns Boys (said last week they were the Jekyll and Hydes of the comp) went wham bam thank you mam and absolutely splintered Brentons boys 10-6. 2 all at the first break then it was all the Bruns Boys with Pete and Nestor getting 3 each and Mr Compton and Kenny chiming in with a couple each. Splinters Revenge just didn't come to play with Dean Geoff and Greenie getting doubles it doesn't leave much for Donny and the snowman. That keeps the Bruns Boys in touch with the 8 while Splinters Revenge drop to the lower part of the top 8.
The Hustlers were down on players but were helped out by Ryans F's better half Mel under trying physical circumstances. Thanks Mel. Under the circumstances it was a closely fought affair with Tarns Boys getting the cash 10-6. Kane wasn't at his best but was covered by James and Brownie with 3 each while Tarn was stoked and really buzzin with her form and with Jagger notched up doubles. The Hustlers with no Sticks were under the pump after going down 4 zip early, and although they shared the other 3 quarters it was to little to late. Mark and Fisho were the winners for the Hustlers with 3 each.
Another semi upset saw 2nd placed Coolie Gold tie with the frontrunners and favourites The Tigers 8 all. No Watty no Tigers it was that simple super sub Dingo was the only winner in the first quarter then it was catch up. They grabbed the lead back to go into the last stanza 7-5 up but shades of the first quarter ans Coollie Gold finished to well under pressure to grab a point and stay 2nd on the ladder. Northy kept up the good form with 3 while for the Gold team Deano and Terry grabbed 3 with Eddie still going great guns with a double bot Newcastle had a shocker with nil zip zero. What happened Newc?
The Captains TT Rebels are languishing near the bottom of the ladder but are way better than that and showed they are on the way back leaving Dazed and Confused just that with a 13-3 scoreline. Packo got 2 and Rod 1 but that was it for the Dolphins lads. Rob knocked in a master for the Rebels a good effort on the tight Dolphins tables. Congrats Rob good effort. Marco Morrison stormed back into form with 4 with the rest of the team all only losing 1 apiece. Good form from the Rebels with their Gold Coast City 8 Ball knockout final against Brent chopper and co on Thursday night at the Marriot. Mark and the Captain are taking some good form into that game. The Rebels might string a few together now they have cracked it.
The Flair Crew are becoming Jekyll and Hyde 2 and can't get 2 results in a row going down to the Cunning Stunts 9-7 even with NSW ladies champ "Moo" Malone working into her best form with the Nationals just around the corner winning all 4. Her victory over QLD master and Aust rep Daniel Higgins very sweet. The cunning Stunts are winning a few and losing a few and are just hovering around the 8 they will be there when the whips are cracking. Not sure of the personal stats in this game except for "moo's" effort as the result was emailed to me and I am on a different computer, Sorry Guys and girls slack I know.
Saved the worst till last. We were abominable against Farque and were dead lucky to get the points 9-7 after leading 6-1 rarly doors. Full credit to the Twin Towns boys to fight back and nearly snatch an unlikely victory. Scott lead the way for them with a very good effort to win all 4 and Jeremy a couple. All the Cellar Dwellers got 2 each and I got lucky to win my only frame and put us out of danger. Oscar cleaned up on the pokies but I had to leave early so missed my sling, Good to have Michael back for us and he played a couple of good games. We are well in the 8 but for how long?
