2007 Summer Comp

The day started on a sombre note with the players taking a minutes silence to mark the passing of youngster Kane Radford who passed away that morning after a long and painful fight with lukemia. Nothing can be put in print to cover such a tragety and our sincere condolances go out to the Radford family for their great loss. All players who knew Kane played in black armbands as a show of respect for such a fine young man and he will be very sadly missed by all. He played the cards dealt to him with dignity and grace and for that we can only hold him in awe. RIP Kane.

As a measure of our respect for Kane The NSW8BALL open singles title will be named the Kane Radford memorial NSW8ball singles title.

The service for Kane will be on Thursday 10.00am at the Christian Outreach Centre, 23 Carseldine Road, Bridgewater Downs.

The finals got under way at the Coolangatta Hotel with 13 of the 14 teams participating. Happy Days failed to turn up and forfeited which was a disappointment, but steady Eddie from Happy Days was slotted in to the Snowmen team who were short 1 player and it was all good.

The games definitely had the grand final pressure to them and there were no easy wins anywhere. As minor premiers my lads really struggled to get past the 3 man Coolie Vannesa side who were still at their peak early in the day but with the help of the 4 byes we got home to go into the semis against Sea Masters who as I predicted had a little to much finals experience for the Blow Ins and got up easily in the end 9-4 to advance. The other quarters saw Wattys Tigers really get pushed by Jaggers (without their star Dene Heremaia). The captains squared off and Vikki looked like she was about to complete the upset of the season against Watty with an out from nowhere but went in off when on the black and Watty scrambled away with the win. It was certainly to close for comfort for the Tigers but they advanced into the semis to play the winner of the Eels and Still Playing, which was another sea sawing game, at 6 all it was anyones game then The Captain nailed Brent and at 6-7 the odds on premiership favourites were looking down the barrel of defeat. Once again finals experience showed and the Eels slivered out of a dangerous situation and won the last 3 to get up 9-7 and win a date with The Tigers in the semies.

So the semis were set with the Cellar Dwellers vs Sea Masters and The Eels Vs The Tigers. My lads made terribly hard work of our game with Sea Masters and we only put it to bed when Oscar missed a black against me and we got up 9-7 saving a play off by the 2 captains which would surely have been a luck of the draw result. So we were of to the finals with 3 guys who had no A grade grand finals experience, a really super effort from Michael, Willie and Mr Bean. The Sea Masters then played off for 3rd or 4th spot vs the loser of the other semi. In the other semi The Eels really put it to the Tigers and blew them away 9-4 with Watty winning his 3 and Trent ending their misery with a master to clinch their spot in the finals. The Eels went into the final as raging hot favourites but my lads were there waiting for them.

The brothers Watt?s game for 3rd saw Team Watt snr (Sea Masters)bounce to a 4-1 lead the Team Watt Jnr (Tigers) come storming back on the dodgey table to put 7 straight on the board and then coast into 3rd spot with Sea Masters 4th. Pee North finally came good late and maybe we need a twilight final series for the big man. His cheer squad wasn?t put to the test early but good to see him come good late. Dennis and his "boys" can be proud of their year and were only a black off maybe being in the final, I would like to thank Oscar for being the years super sub and I think he played in most rounds and got to play in the final and did really well.

The fight for 5th and 6th saw a nip and tuck dogfight between the young guns (Hot Shots) and the not so young guns (sorry Blake) (Still Playing). The game went to the wire with the young guns getting 3 of the last 4 to send the result into golden point. Alas for the young guns Marco Morrison got over the top of Credo (no mean feat that) and pinched it 9-8. The draw with the golden point playoff really adds to the finals pressure. Next season we will bring in best of 3 golden point playoff in the event of a draw.

The 3 man Vannessa under huge pressure (from the bar) got away with 7th spot from the Jaggers who wound up 8th. However the Jaggers first round effort against 3rd placegetters Tigers suggest they were gutted by the loss and didn?t pick themselves up again. Skipper Vikki has really got the art of subbing down to a fine art.

While all this main draw stuff was going on the 9th to 13th sides where playing off for their positions on the ladder. The Woodies (Hot Shots) came from back in the pack to finally be crunched by the Flair Crew 9-2 to end up 10th with the Flair Crew finishing the season 9th just outside the 8 but a disappointment for them I am sure. Gnoma and her gnomes will be back though for the next season with maybe air guitarist superstar Ricketty Rick Coleman in their midst. That will bring them right into contention.

Balltearers were 11th and will have an over haul before next season Management 12th with a name change and their new recruit Ben will be far more competitive next season. Snowmen came up the rear but they to improved greatly from what they showed at the start of the year. Happy Days forfeited and were the wooden spoon holders.

GRAND FINAL: The Eels were hot favourites but we were ready for a fight and Mr Bean rolled Brent and I got lucky and it was 2 all at quarter time. 2nd quarter saw Mr Bean take out Justin but I got sloppy against Mickey and it was 5-3 at half time Brent and Trent got their games. Willie and Michael were playing well but one bad shot a game was costing them.
The championship quarter saw Mickey take out Michael after Michael made all the running, then Mr Bean rolled Trent, Willie had a brain exposion against Justin with 2 shots in hand but being his first season at pool he will learn big time from that. Then I got lucky against Brent and we went in the last quarter 5-7 down but with a sniff. Trent and Mickey blew that sniff out of the water and the Eels ended up well deserved North Coast Summer comp champions. My lads did me proud and with the experience will be all the better for next season.

The Captain presented Brent with a perpetual trophy and all winners and runners up were presented a grand final medallion.

That ended a very successful North Coast summer comp with the Eels as fitting champions.

Final standings and prizemoney.
1st Eels $1750.00
2nd Cellar Dwellers $700.00
3rd Tigers $450.00
4th Sea Masters $350.00
5th Still Playing $300.00
6th Blow Ins $250.00
7th Coolie Vannesa $200.00
8th Jaggers $150.00
9th Flair Crew $120.00
10th Hot Shots $80.00
11th Balltearers $70.00
12th Management $60.00
13th Snowmen $50.00
14th Happy Days Forfeit

We would like to thank all the teams for making it a great summer season and we will do it all again with the Spring starting on monday June 25th. 7.00pm start

Now for the serious stuff. All the jockeying for positions is over (except for Cellar Dwellers vs Snowmen to be played next monday 21st at Dolphins to make up the first round bye) and it's finals time at 10.00am (that might find a few of you out) Sunday 27th at the Coolie Hotel upstairs.

The total prizemoney fund is $4290.00. Trophies $140.00 Prizemoney $4150.00.

The minor premiership is still to be decided but if my lads beat Snowmen we get the honor but if we get rolled it's The Tigers they get it. On form we look good but you never ever know.

Cellar Dwellers won 13-3.

The 8 is set.
1st Cellar Dwellers
2nd Tigers
3rd Eels.
4th Blow Inns.
5th Sea Masters.
6th Still Playing
7th Jaggers
8th Coolie Vannesa.

Division 2 finals.
9th Balltearers.
10th Flair Crew.
11th Management.
12th Hot Shots.
13th Snowmen.
14th Happy Days.

Some pretty close games closed out the Summer comp preliminaries. Snowmen and Happy Days fought out a draw with the lovely Tania playing her first game of the year pinching the last frame for Happy Days for the draw.

Deja vu for Jaggers vs Blow Ins with the lovely Min piching a black ball game off Credo (thank god for that the lovely Credo doesn't have the same ring to it) after Credo had the game on toast, but he burnt it and coughed up the win giving Jaggers a well deserved draw. Jaggers get Cellar Dwellers or Tigers first up in the finals while Blow Ins get Sea Masters and that's an even money game.

With Brent out with an ailment my lads took advantage of the Eels and bounced them 10-6. The Coolie team found the Dolphins pockets a bit tighter the Coolie and paid the penalty. Mr Bean was outstanding with 4 from 4 and jumped into 2nd spot on the personal stats. Good one Taffy. Of course the Eels are still heavy favourites for the flag with Brent back. The Eels get Still Playing in the finals first up, no gimmee but the Eels will start favourites in that one. Probably the Cellar Dwellers are up against the 3 man Coolie Vannesa in the finals. With my lads probably favourites due to weight of numbers (4 vs 3) but it will be a tough assignment as they are all very good players.

The Tigers struggled to get over a 3 man Coolie Vannesa 9-7. Watty got 4, suprise suprise and he wins the personal stats prize by a mile and the master break prize by even further (thats why he chose Twin Towns for a venue big pockets make him look good). Dean McDonald was on fire for Coolie Vannesa and with Donny and Frosty they are a good side. The Tigers get the Jaggers in the finals. Tigers just favourite there due to Wattys presence but the Jaggers are going good and if they can pinch a game off Pete it will all open up.

It was disappointing Sea Masters got a forfeit from Hot Shots. Hot Shots participation in the finals depends on their paying up for the last 2 rounds. We will see.

Flair Crew who are coming good at the wrong end of the season and got over Management 10-6. Now that Management have a set 4 players they will go well in the finals. Young Ben is a fine player with loads of potential and any team with mighty Moo in it has to be respected. Their respective opponents in the division 2 finals wil be determined on the day.

Balltearers had a chance to jump into the final 8 but Still Playing were to tough for them, even with Geoffrey making a home ground appearance, and went down 10-6. Balltearers will be tough in division 2 with Packo making a return to form last night.

So that's it its all go for the finals. This Sunday sees the Byron Bay classic relocated to the Cooloie Hotel for this year and then grand final day the following Sunday 2th May. Both 10.00am starts.

Grand Final day will also be the sign on day for the Winter comp starting in the last Monday in June. We will attempt to get 2 divisions so we want a preference from you which division you would prefer to play in. We have several players looking for teams that didn't play in the summer comp so let me or Watty know if you need players.

NAME AND SHAME LIST. Hot Shots owe for rounds 12 and 13. Happy Days owes $50.00.

First up no games next week due to Qld Labor Day public Holiday and also the Hervey Bay long weekend pool comp. Last round on the 14th May then the Grand Final day on 27th May.

Prizemoney fund after round 11 is $3563.00.

Vanessa gave my lads a forfeit which was a tad disappointing, but a win is a win and we are looking forward to our last match against the premiership favourites The Eels which will shape the top 3. We still have to play out our first round bye against the Snowmen (who joined in the second round) and will play it on 21st May at Dolphins Hotel.

League leaders The Tigers were pushed by Twinnies Management with new recruit Ben Harvey showing he will be a force to be reckoned with in the winter comp (which is starting on 25th June with hopefully 2 divisions), but the Tigers got up 10-6 in the end. Watty 4 from 4 being the difference. Management will be a competitive unit next season with the experience they have gained in the summer comp.

The game of the round was Andy's Snowmen who are sitting way down the ladder vs The high flying Eels, the boys from Dolphins Hotel pulled out all stops and flew home to just go down 9-7. A super dooper effort from the Snowmen and they are another team who have come along in leaps and bounds since a very disjointed start. The Eels are always hard to get over they are a very good side and deserved favourites for the flag. (best we don't mention their footy side namesakes effort on the weekend, although me being a St George supporter really can't say to much).

Still Playing and Flair Crew couldn't be split when the match came to a halt and Still Playing had to put up with another draw. They should make the top 8 but Flair Crew will be in the consolation finals where they probably are entitled to be favourites with the early morning start just what their superstar "moo" Malone needs to be at her best. Always at her best early in the day Wayne tells me.

Sea Masters continue to quietly cement their spot in the top 8 and were to good for Happy Days 13-3 with Oscar filling in for Happy Days against his finals team getting the 3 games for Happy Days. Player like Oscar have made the comp a whole lot easier to run being available as a super sub week in week out. The last round will see Happy Days vs Snowmen in a bitter epic for the wooden spoon. With their latest form I will have to be on Snowmen but you never know in this game.

Squid kid's Blow Ins look certain to finish in 4th spot after tearing through Balltearers 10-6 with Mel again having to sub for Geoffrey which is a bit tough on her but she handles it well. She is off to Hervey Bay with skipper and partner Ryan and the experience of playing in those big comps can only help their games for the future. Balltearers are borderline for the top 8 it will come down to the last rounds results. The Blow Ins have been the genuine improvers of the league and it will be interesting to see their progess through the finals.

Jaggers are safe in the 8 after blowing away Hot Shots 13-3, Johnny Woods has been the shining light for Hot Shots and has good potential to go on with it. Daniel is struggling with his work commitments but has done well to keep his team together and our thanks for that. Jaggers need Dene in the finals but the 27th May might see him in the Hunter we all hope not (unless you are playing him of course). Namesake Jagger shot 100% and is coming good at the right time.

Ok no Sundays for any pool players for the month of May, 5th,6th, 7th, Hervey Bay. 13th City Country playoffs at snooker world. 20th Byron Bay Classic and 27th Grand Final day. Then you can all have a rest and mow the lawns and keep your partners sweet, unless like me you are past sweet.
Good luck to all that are off to Hervey Bay wish I was coming, but alas it is not to be. (as yet).

NAME AND SHAME LIST TO ROUND 11. Happy Days are $20.00 in arrears.

Current prizemoney pool for grand final day available as of round 10 is $3338.00* (*see name and shame list) plus the $30 entry fee per team on Grand Final day to fund the 9th to 14th playoffs. The amount available will be advised round by round until the big day.

Strike me the finals are nearly here, remember all teams play on the day and the 10.00am start will be right up most of your alleys on a Sunday morning. We will be playing upstairs at the Coolie Hotel which is opening the week after next with downstairs closing.

Ok round 11 a couple of draws and a couple of hammerings so it was all happening. The Woodies Hot Shots had The Balltearers on toast when Kristie won her game in the last round to go 8-6 up. One game from the 2 points. Silver got over young Johnny and then it was down to Daniel and Packo, yes Packo. What a game I had to go outside with Daniel odds on and Packo on an impossible cut on the black. Well swish the black went in and Packo is back with the cast off. A draw but a good result.

Another draw between Sea Masters and Jaggers. Same scenario Andy put the Jaggers in the box seat at 8-5 but the old guys (I can call them that) fought back and grabbed the draw. The skipper getting over Jagger in the last game. Another closie but a good result again.

The Flair Crew blew up vs the Blow Ins and were dusted 12-4 even with "Moo" Malone having a bludge from her training and playing the full round. The squid kids team bounced back from last weeks hammering and that will give them great heart for the finals. The Crew (the Flair is definately gone for the time being) look likely to contest the 9th to 14th finals. A bit of a let down for them but they will bounce back.

The Tigers nailed Still playing 10-6 with 3 master breaks on the night to Watty, Steve G and even Mr North grabbed one. Stiil Playing are in a race to make the top 8 and the next 2 weeks will be crunch time for Marco's boys. Wattys lads are cruising along nicely at the head of affairs.

My lads handled a 3 man Management side 13-3. They should be pleased I played as I lost 2 games to put them on the board. Management will be at full strength for the rest of the year. They all played well and had winning chances most games. From my team Mr Bean was on fire and Willie and Oscar were red hot last night as well, while I was merely smouldering.

A two man Vanessa put paid to a 3 man Snowmen. The skipper of Snowmen Andy made a tactical blunder by leaving early as the 2 byes he would have picked up would have got them over the line. As it was Brenton and Donnie got up 9-7 due to the byes Andy caused. Vanessa is another side on the brink of the 8. Col, Garrett and Rod (and Andy when he stays) put in every week and their last round vs Happy Days will be a good contest. An interesting last couple of weeks loom.

The final game off the round predictably saw the Eels beat Happy Days 13-3, but a young guy who joined Happy Days on the night Josh grabbed a couple of games and played well. Brent grabbed a master break. They deserve to be premiership favourites.

Just had a chat with Mark Morrison and their City Country tryouts will be held on Sunday 13th May for both the men and ladies at snooker world. It is to be double elimination format, frames TBA.

NAME AND SHAME LIST: Happy Days owe fees for rounds 9 and 10.

Don't forget NSW8BALL ranking tournament on sunday 22nd at Twin Towns 10.00am(EST) start.

Also don't forget there is a break on the 7th May for Queensland Labor day with the Hervey Bay Comp being held that long weekend. If you have never played in it give it a go, it's a great weekend. For more details ring me or Watty or the Hervey Bay organiser Brian Eadie on 0407 031 252. It's $5000.00 guaranteed and prizemoney paid to 16th spot with pot luck doubles on the Sunday worth $700.00 and nightly comps Fri, Sat,and Sunday. Final 16 play off Monday. It's a weekend not to be missed and a heap of players from this comp will be there.

Current prizemoney pool for grand final day available as of round 9 is $2956.00* (*see name and shame list) plus the $30 entry fee on Grand Final day to fund the 9th to 14th playoffs.. The amount available will be advised round by round until the big day.

Round 10 off and gone with only 3 rounds to go then the Winter comp starting on June 25th after a 4 week break so get your team together.

My lads played Marco's Still Playing and they came out running and pinched a 3-1 lead at the first break, but Willie, Oscar and Mr Bean came out firing and we got up 11-5 to keep us right up there. Michael Cowling had a rare night off due to business commitments we hope he had an early night and will be back firing next round.

The squid kid's Blow Ins were cock of hoop when leading the leaders Wattys Tigers 3-1 then 5-4 early, but the cool heads of Northy(cool?) Steve And Dingo pulled out their A grade games and they never got another frame, another 11-5. Watty 4 from 4 for a change.

Andy's Snowmen had their first victory of the season in a tough fought forfeit from Management who were left short with a virus and had to pull out, but they will be back next week, as will be the Snowmen who are now on a winning roll. 16-0 good for the stats.

Hot Shots caused an upset over Flair Crew 10-6 with even the mighty MOO making an appearance in the 3rd round having no effect and her captain immediately dropped her for the 4th round. The crew need to find the Flair again before the finals, but with Moo available for the full rounds of the final it will be a different ball game for them. Good to see the Woods and Kristy getting back on the winners list, they are all improving with each game.

An undermaned Coolie Vanessa were taken out by The Eels 11-5 but I have no team sheets for the game and can't comment, so their individual stats are not up to date untill the sheet comes in.

Thre Jaggers leapt out of the boxes against Happy Days and kept running and blew them away 14-2. They only had 4 players on the night and it makes a big difference when you aren't subbing players in and out and they are getting the shits being left out. A lesson for us all.

The Balltearers left their tearing to The Sea Masters and that they did and came away with a good 11-5 result. Young Mel picked up a game for her side but they were left in the swell as Dennis' lads put the acid on them and cemented their spot in the top 8. The captain getting 4 from 4 so he right on for the finals coming up next month.

NAME AND SHAME LIST: Happy Days are in arrears for round 9.

Current prizemoney pool for grand final day available as of round 8 is $2634.00 plus the $30 entry fee on Grand Final day to fund the 9th to 14th playoffs.. The amount available will be advised round by round until the big day. This is the commited amount to round 8 so there is no bullshit on Grand Final day with adjustments. All leagues should present an available prizemoney pool round by round. The players are the the payers and it's only right they should be kept in the loop. Our 13 week comp will disperse the equilivent of most of the other leagues 30 week comps. Make the league you play for accountable guys and girls, insist on statements to cover the prizemoney and costings. You make the game work. If we get the flow on and our number grow next year we will cut our costs even more and the players will get a bigger slice of the pie. Think about it. Don't sit back, demand your league justifies it's expenditure and gives you the rightful amount of prizemoney. We are working on 80% returning in prizemoney this year and aiming to trim that down as our number grow.

Don't forget next Monday the 9th April is a night off due to Easter.

Well the leader board has shifted with my boys getting well and truly belted by the squid kids Blow ins 9-7. James knocked in a master on the penultimate game to seal our fate. Our apprentce 8 ball player Willie was our best and showed he will make the grade with more experience at tactical games. The blow ins are playing as a team and the results are showing. Good one guys.

The Tigers upset Daniels 21st party (and no he didn't shout) with a 14-2 hammering. Stev G again getting back amongst the runs with Watty 4 from 4 for a change. The Hot Shots guys and girls are getting valuable experience playing good players and will be miles better for it next comp.
Wattys master break will be added to the stats next week.

Ex Vannessa got over Happy Days 12-4 with Happy Days stringing 4 together but just couldn't keep it going.

The Eels were to strong for Management with Brent losing 3 by playing double on the black to win. Mickey Allen had a master break which will be added to the stats next week. I was knackered by 12.30am and missed his and Wattys. Sorry lads. Skipper Rod chipped in with a double for Management.

At 2 all after the first round I could smell an upset between The Snowmen and Still Playing but alas it was not to be, with Mark's lads pulling away to a 12-4 victory. The skipper Marcus M getting all 4. Must congratulate Mark, Watty, Mr Waffle and Pee North on their resounding victory in the Snooker World teams final on Sunday. Well done guys. Dodgey handicapping but you all did well. Bobby kicked in with a double for the Snowmen.

Ryan and his Balltearers crew snipped the first 3 frames and that was enough to get the money 10-7 against The Jaggers. Speaking of Jaggers jagger himself got the 100% record on the night in a losing team. Good potting Jamie. Ryan, Geoff, and Glen got 3 for the Balltearers.

Mel "moo" Malone was back tonight after the Flair Crew were on a roll last week but alas again the Crew were humbled by the golden oldies (sorry guys) the Sea Masters rode the waves better and pinched a 10-6 victory. Wayne and Mick got doubles for the Crew and Jeff and Kerry got trebles for the oldies.

OK name and shame list: Another clean sweep all paid up. A couple by the skin of their teeth but still all paid.

Don't forget Easter Monday 9th April is a night off and that monday nights start at 6.30pm.

My boys carried on their winning way and scored the first 16 blot scoreline of the comp against Hot Shots. Michael, Willie, and Taffy are really playing with a lot of confidence which will be tested against the unbeaten Blow Ins next week. Will be a good night. (for 1 of us anyway). Hot Shots battled away and should have pinched a few frames but it wasn't to be. Hots Shots hot Shot Daniel had the night off they will be better when he gets back next week.

Management are on a roll and took an under manned Cooly Vaneesa to task 10-6 can't say much as haven't got their sheets yet. Cooly Vanessa will be back to full strength next week.

The Watt brothers did battle and young Pete got the better of older bros Kerry and Dennis 12-4. The Tigers are a different team with Watty there, might have to arrange another trip to Canberra about finals time. Sea Masters are going along alright and will be there come finals day on the 25th May.

Eels got Still Playing 11-5 with the Captain getting all 4 for Still Playing will we ever hear the end of it? The Eels proved last week was a mere hicup and once again moved into top gear with a powerful performance.

Blow Ins remained undefeated (better enjoy the week lads) with The Snowmen only getting 4 games. No hecklers there last night which is disappointing still they may be back next week. Callum Credo James And Pete are flying at the moment and The Snowmen just need a bit more experience at world rules and tactics and the will improve out of sight. If the Blow Ins remain undefeated after the next fortnight they will be nearly favourites for the flag. They have my boys the Watty's.

"Moo" Malone had the night off and the Flair Crew went wild giving it to the Jaggers 13-3. "Moo" might not get a gig for a while if the boys keep up that form. Vikki and the boys tried hard but Mins 21st on the weekend may well have taken it's toll on the Captain.

The upset of the night was Happy Days jumping off the bottem of the ladder grabbing a point off The Balltearers after being down and out in Beverly Hills. Skipper Tony winning the last game from Packo to get the draw. Good effort from Happy Days they are improving week by week.

NAME AND SHAME LIST: Hot Shots owe fees from round 7 (paid)

Well we are past the half way mark and grand final day 25th May is looming large. Teams are now getting into their positions and getting set to charge over the last 6 rounds. Lets get it on.

To do the stats and write ups I need the score sheets on monday night, if I don't get them your personal stats can't be done. Give them to myself, Watty, Geoff, or Callum on the night. Ta

My lads the Cellar Dwellers remain undefeated (with a game in hand) after a tough go with the Sea Masters getting up 9-7 but if the seamen could have kept the white out of the pocket it would have been see you later Poppy. Never mind we take what we can get. Willie won the penultimate game to close it out for us. All the boys are going well and Sea Masters won't be far away as well.
Still Playing unfortunately had to play a depleted Coollie Vanessa and won easily. That won't happen again as Donny has taken over the reins to the team and they will be back hard next week, with the happy Hooker Pete and Dean Mcdonald as likely replacements for the departing Farrells. Still Playing needed the 2 points badly so they are not complaining.
Management stayed on a roll getting over the top of Happy Days 10-6. They are back to normal next week and we would like to thank Oscar for filling in for them over the last couple of weeks.
The Tigers chewed up the Jaggers and spat them out. Captain Vikki went on the defensive and it didn't work next week she is back to going for the throat. Mr 100% Watt got rolled by Scotty Jazprizza well done Scotty. We know have to find a new nickname for Watty as Mr 95.83% Watt doesn't have the same ring to it. The lovely Min turns 21 on Saturday we all wish her the best of days and all cash gifts (nothing under $100) and presents will be greatly received.
The upset of the round was the comeback of the Blow Ins from 8-5 down to get up and draw with the Eels (a dirty weekend for Brentsky as the Warriors gave it to the Eels on Saturday night, I think I had $20 on the warriors with Brent, not sure). Callum and his crew are yet to taste defeat as yet (3 draws) and are flying at present. The Eels will hit back hard next week though.
Hot Shots got over Snowmen 9-7 in a tough encounter with the crowd heckling and being major pests. You all know the kind, pissed and know alls. Never mind it was a good game besides all that. Kristy's black to nail Andy was a sight to behold and the highlight of the night. Just ask Andy.
The Fair Crew were taken by the Balltearers, it sounds uncomfortable doesn't it. 10-6 the final result. Geoff and Mel were the stars and their game was one to watch.
NAME AND SHAME LIST: Happy Days are in arrears for rouund 6. Didn't catch up with Tony last night so I am sure it will be rectified next week. (paid)

Ok here we go again. With daylight saving ending on the 25th March the committee decided to ask the captain their preference for the starting times when it ended. With the majority to rule. I stopped after 9 captains as they all preferred to stay with the 6.30pm starting time. So that is the starting time for the rest of the summer comp. 6.30 QLD and NSW after next week.

*The 2nd NSW playoff is this sunday the 18th at Casino. See the calendar for more details.

*Joe Olding is having a sign on day (with a $500 comp) for his pub comp on Sunday the 25th at Central Park Tavern at 11.00am. $20 entry with a calcutta. So get a team together, they are affiliated with QEBF and are eligible to compete at the City Country weekend at Acacia Ridge in June. Further details will be on this forum when they are confirmed.

*Brent Read is running a comp at Snooker World on the 1st April 12.00 start. $50 entry restricted to 8 players (no state players or 4 pointers) race to 5 round robin. Top 2 play off for $300 1st $100 2nd prize. Current 8 are Newcastle Dave, Deano, Marco Morrison, Rocket Rod, Credo, Callum, Trent and Ryan F. If you want to go on the reserve list or nominate for the next comp at a date TBA ring Brent 0438 559302, after lunchtime if you could.

Brents Eels were to strong for Hot Shots 14-2 but the Hot Shots had a couple of memoriable moments. Youngster Johnny Woods put paid to Brent as did brothr Daniel so they were over the moon, great to see the youngsters being competitive. Peter Woods the boys father made his debut and really enjoyed himself and played well. He said he was aprehensive about playing because of his age but when he saw me, Willie, Dennis Watt and several other golden oldies (we love the masters term) playing he felt right at home. Good Stuff.

My boys the Cellar Dwellers nailed the Jaggers courtesy of the Jaggers going in off a couple of times a game, good of them I thought and they let us off the hook numerous times. We got up 13-3 but it was a lot closer than that. Andy was good again and all my boys played well.

Still Playing got a point for a draw with Management. With the boys from Still Playing having to win the last 2 to snatch the draw. Oscar filled in for Management and Rod and Scotty pulled 3 from 4 so that was a big improvement and they can kick on with it. Rocket Rod won the last with a game of patience after Blake set up the chance with a good win over Oscar. A draw was a good result.

Great to see Happy Days push Flair Crew and the 9-7 loss was a big effort by them. "Moo" Malone and the Skipper Wayne were back from their short break to put the Flair back in the crew and it was a good win after the 15-1 loss last week without them. Lucas grabbed 3 from 3 and Tony got 2 with Edward and Cameron getting a game each to get to 7. "Moo" stood down from the last round to keep her 100% on the night intact. Brother Jack grabbed the penultimate game to give them the chockies.

The Snowmen were another team to show good improvement and although they went down 10-6 the team played a lot better than they have been. Skipper Watty senior led the way for the Sea Masters and is back on track with 4 from 4 and the grey fox Mr Peters chimed in with 3. The smokies Rod and Garrett grabbed themselves 2 games each along with Col. Skipper Andy sat out the night but was there in support which was great.

Balltearers sent a scare up the Tigers spines, with the Tigers having to win the last 3 to get up 9-7. Mel Cassar made her debut last night and she got 1 game and is a breath of fresh air. Northy was in his power play mode and it took a master from the spin king to get the Tigers back on track then it was brought home by the Watts. All the Balltearers played hard and Packo went around with his arm in a cast again. Seems to play better like that. Watty got all 4 to keep his 100% record intact. My boys are still filthy he was away when we played them.

The tightest finish of the night was the Blow Ins 9-7 victory over Cooly Vanessa having to win all of the last round games to get up. Captain Callum "calamari" Wade led the way with his 4 from 4. Peter Hooker made a comeback and all in all it was a good tight game and what it is all about. Matty and Vanessa are off to Melbourne for 6 months after next week. We all wish them well and hope they do well down South.

NAME AND SHAME LIST: Nothing, nought, zip, zero, ziltch. Sensational 1 team is even in credit. Well done way to go

NOTE The date of 12th March is down as a non playing night on the individual team programmes on the website (new programmes were issued last week but just in case you were not told), this is wrong we are playing on the 12th March and are off for Easter monday the 9th April. See your captain for the new program sheet. Oops sorry about that. Still it wouldn't be pool if there wasn't a ballsup on the odd occassion.

Don't forget the next NSW8BALL 2nd ranking event is on Sunday 18th March at The Oxenford Hotel at Casino. It is a super venue make an effort a get there you won't be disappointed.

Ok down to business.

Time flies, round 5 gone and next week we are nearly half way through the summer comp, and we can start preparing for the winter comp starting in late June, date to be confirmed ASAP.

No real nail bitters this week and not an upset in sight.

Firstly just to clarify the sub system. eg If player 6 is subbed into the 2nd round to replace the no 2 player the number 6 player stays as the number 2 player for the rest of the rounds (unless they are subbed out again of course). The number 2 player that was subbed out of round 2 can come back into the 3rd round again in any position the captain chooses and stays in that position for the 4th round if they play. Clear as mud excellent. Any queries on the night ring Watty on 0417 608827 he is the sub expert.

Ok back to the round 5 games, The Tigers roared and Flair Crew lacked a bit of flair in a 15-1 result. By all accounts it was closer than that and Flair Crew were minus their Captain and "moo" Malone so that was a big loss to them. Northy was outstanding as only Northy can be, always good to watch as long as you aren?t a team mate.

The Eels came back after a negative round 1 to sink the Sea Masters 10-6. Brents side is always going to be hard to hold out with Mickey, Joe, Trent and Justin all good players (Brent is handy as well). Peter Rauchfuss is going well and is high on the list of players percentages good stuff Pete. Kerry Watt being back always helps.

Cellar Dwellers continued on their unbeaten run over Balltearers (minus their captain which made no difference) 13-3. Taffy and Michael are going well and welcome to Willie Tawiri having his first game of pool under world rules, the crafty snooker player will do well. Also Bryne Smith is laid up we all wish him a speedy recovery.

While on hospital cases (hospital not head) Still Playing are playing without their super master Steve Chapman who is recovering from knee surgery (we can only hope it doesn't slow him down even more) and winning. Get back soon Captain the nights are finishing to early. Happy Days were their victims this time 12-4 after a close first round.

Jaggers and Snowmen had massive sub problems but are all up to speed with the subbing system now (I think). Jaggers getting up 11-5 with Dene Heremia back for the night. Jaggers are going along nicely and Snowmen are on the improve now they have settled their team structure.

Team Vanessa took the hot out of Hot Shots minus big Ben 13-3 with only Daniel showing any form winning their 3 games. Donny was unbeaten with Matty, Brenton and the skipper Vanessa all grabbing 3 games and are playing good pool.

The last reported game saw an under strength Management go down to Blow Ins 11-5. Kim Hondo is joining Management from next week so that will solve that problem. A pity they were short as they were competitive all night. Scott Petterson has real good stats for management and skipper Rod Pain has been pulling out his hair over the last 3 weeks, hopefully he is back on track next week with Kim. Blow Ins are cruising along alright to date.

NAME AND SHAME: Hot Shots have extenuating circumstances and we have granted them 7 days grace to get their arrears of $40 in the bank. That is up to round 4 with all other team up to date. (paid)

NOTE: Program correction: Monday march 12th is round 6 while April 9th April (easter) is now a rest day. New program sheets will be available on monday 5th March. Sorry for the balls up.

A couple of runaway wins in round 4 but the other 5 games went down to the wire. The Eels put paid to the Jaggers 13-3 best the Jaggers skipper Vikki gets back and cracks the whip to get them back in the winners list again next week.
The Tigers got over an undermaned Happy Days 14-2.
The Cellar Dwellers were a tad lucky to touch up the Flair Crew 9-7, after leading 7-4 and looking like going to 7-8 but had a touch of luck and got up on the line. Mel was unbeaten on the night and Michael Cowling got 3 from 4 for the C/Dwellers.
A bit of controversy in the Management vs Hot Shots. 2 different score sheets were presented and the outcome was determined by the NSW8BALL committee. The game in question was awarded to Management on the confirmed umpires decision. So Management got their first win of the season 9-7 good effort guys. This was not a dificult decision as the umpire in charge of any game is in total charge. His or her decisions rightly or wrongly are final.
Rocket Rod Bechaz has struck a purple bit of form and his 4 from 4 got Still Playing away with an 8 all draw with the improving and highly competitive Blow Ins. Both teams have a lot to offer.
Team Vanessa upset Seamasters in a big way with a 10-6 win. Seamasters skipper Dennis Watt and Oscar had a night to forget while Dashing Dave Smallwood kept his good form going with 4 from 4. Both teams will be there when the whips are cracking later in the season.
The last game saw The Snowmen put in a very spirited performance going dow 6-10 against the Balltearers a really good effort from the boys who joined the comp late and are still finding their feet. (they are usually under your knees).
No name and shame list this week, although it was close. All playing team fees up to round 3 are paid. A very small number of players haven?t paid their membership fees. All player must be financial by their 4th game or points will be deducted.
